Garment three
This is another garment we started off with origionally. Again we didnt want to just use it as a shirt so we came up with the idea of cutting the sleaves and collar off and using as a skirt. We also had this floral skirt which was also to be combined into making a garment.
For this skirt we came up with the idea to tuck it into the skirt we made out of the blouse. We turned the skirt upside down so the fabric hung downwards, we then cut arm holes down the side and made the front into the V neck design. Below is the final outcome of what our garment would look like after been stitched together.

We turned the curtain fabric into a simple dress by just wrapping the fabric around but doing some fabric manipulation down the right hand side to make the dress more dimensional and interesting. by wrapping it in this way we also created this effect going down the back of the dress which looked really effective.

Garment one
This was the first idea we tried with this garment. We put it on back to front so the button up detail was turned into a V detail down the back, we also cut off the collar. Because of this the back looked really effective. However, the front was quite plain and boring. We then decided some fabric manipulation was needed so we gathered and scrunched up the top where the collar was which created this effect across the shoulders. We did like this but still agreed the dress was pretty plain, but after trying several other ways of fabric manipulation nothing lay right so we decided against using this garment to go down the run way and looked at our next option.

This is the first garment we chose, we were instantly attracted to the pattern on the garment it really stands out. When we first looked at it we did picture it as a playsuit with a brown belt around the middle or even a shirt dress with a belt. However, we wanted to find a way of using this creatively not just sticking on.
These are my design development sheets, i expermented which different styles that fit in with the garden party theme. For example the floaty dresses with floral patterns and shorts with tied tops. I just tried different ways of using the fabric we were given, such as using a garment backwards or upside down rather than just using a top as a top.

The Salvation army fashion show
The Brief:
Using the requirements set by your client (the fashion show events team) you will research, develop and make an outfit from used garments, donated by the Salvation Army. These will feature in a fashion show at ‘As you like it’ on the 4th May where you will be responsible for dressing and styling your outfits for the runway.
As a class you will be split into 4 groups and be responsible for a separate trend/collection, these are: Colour Block, Seventies, Garden Party and Tribal/Safari.
Your will research current trends using a variety of sources. Each group will have allocated trends to incorporate into their collection, using these as a source of inspiration for colour, shape/silhouette, technique and detail. You will be working in pairs to create one outfit, taking care to consider your team members designs to create an innovative and cohesive collection.
You will have to be creative when developing your designs, referring back to your technical file to incorporate print and fabric manipulation techniques & processes. This will give your used garments a new function, breathing life back into these unwanted clothes!
